Thanks guys! I learned last night that my new TMLE had a bent cooking chamber door frame, the recessed plate that the door is supposed to rest on for a tight seal. Anyway, thanks to numerous tips from the forum, I sealed the whole thing with Red Devil Fireplace and Stove caulk. I rans a rather large bead around the whole door frame and sprayed Pam all over the door. The caulk said it cures with low heat so I started a small batch of charcoal in the fire box and was able to cure and test at the same time. Now, I have perfect temp control, but, I did have a stick holding the ash drawer up in the rear. There is a massive gap at the back if not supported. It is a bad design. I need to think about a more permanent fix. Anyway, I'm very happy with this rig now that she's sealed up and I have easy temp control. I am going to try to make a heat deflector and tuning plate system using some spare ceramic tiles I have laying around. I was wondering if anyone else has been successful with ceramic for this.
