Hi -

I'm new to smoking and just bought an MES40 based on a lot of reviews from this site.

I seasoned it on Wednesday and was surprised at how quickly the smoke from the chips dissipated. Is there a way to use chunks? What do you do to get the smoke to last longer?

I'm planning to smoke a brisket on Saturday and would like to not have to replace chips every 30 minutes (if possible).

Thanks in advance for any input - I'm looking forward to learning more about smoking through you all.

Hi Nathanael,

The best bet for getting good long smoke on your electric is to make a small investment in an Amaze-N-Pellet Smoker or the standard saw dust smoker.  These are available through one of our members, Todd Johnson (TJohnson - screen name).  He advertises on the site (Amaze-N Products).

Todd's devices will give you a nice thin blue smoke for long enough to get a good smokey flavor on whatever it is you are smoking.

Good luck,

Bill

Hi Bill -

Thanks for responding! That's what I was gathering from reading the forum.

Can I use wood chunks with it or should I buy some pellets?

Also, any tips for longer burning with this weekend's smoke?

Nathanael

I would get the AMNPS if it were me. The AMNS is made to burn sawdust & the AMNPS to burn pellets but it will burn dust as well. Definitely get pellets with it - it's not made to burn chunks. Todd has a 20% off sale going on right now for SMF members so it's the perfect time to stock up

As far as the longer smoke time with your MES I'm afraid I can't help you with that - the only time I used chips in mine was to season it. I break out the AMNPS every time I use my MES - both hot & cold smoking. If you get one you will be very happy with it
