Smokey Mountain 32" Electric Smoker Review

Well, I got a Smokey Mountain 32" Electric smoker today along with a shipment of 4 GOSM Big Blocks that are going out to clients.

I love what Landmann has done with packaging over the last few years. When I first started ordering from them the packaging was for retail and not   eCommerce. The new packaging on all the units have been drop tested to meet the requirements set by UPS to be shipped individually.

The unit came packaged nicely with everything secured to prevent it from moving during shipment.

I unpacked all the parts and laid them out. Everything was easily identifiable.

Assembled fairly easily The for the handle on the chip/water drawer is a little tight to get to but is doable.  Everything looks to be fairly heavy duty. Only draw back I have seen is the handles are all plastic. So I will be keeping an eye on that.

This unit comes with a built in meat thermometer, I loaded up the unit and set the cook time for 2 hours at 225 deg. started smoking 20 minutes in and got to 225 after 45 mins. Nice TBS . I will pick something up from the store tomorrow and give a test.

The Landmann site list retail at $450, Sam's Club had these units for $319 and Home Depot has them for $369.

After assembling and curing the cabinet I would say, it is a nice little unit for the  price. I will keep you update on how it holds up long term,

Keep the TBS going.

Todd sent me some Q Mats a while back and I never got around to testing them, Sorry Todd,

Well with the new smoker on the back porch I thought what a perfect opportunity to try them out. The piece i had worked perfectly to cover all 4 shelves. I whipped up some Pork Shots and will post pictures of the end product when they're done.

I read a review at amazon that said these were a bear to clean and that stuff gets all over the smoke pan.

I love your review so far please post picks or comments on whether the clean up is worse than others! Thanks for the great write up

I will post some pictures tomorrow. I would agree that after using it the water pan and the chip pan get a lot of drippings. I will see how it is to clean tomorrow. The whole drawer pulls out so should be easy.

Here is a pictures of the water pan and chip pan. Pretty dirty from 24 Pork Shots. If i would have thought of it I would have sprayed it with Pam. It cleaned-up ok. The drip pan that is below it had not dripping in it. I will be honest, I do not know if I would do a whole pork butt in  this unit. Thinking of the mess it would create, but appetizers, fish, sausage, bacon, cheese etc, this will be  my go to unit,.

Wow,  looks like you would have to sacrifice the bottom shelf to hold a drip pan...JJ

JJ,

There  is a drip pan just lower. I could probably put a small tray on the first shelf and make that the drip pan. I will play with it, I like they way it runs just a few glitches to work out.
