Hi all,
This is my first post on here. I have been lurking for awhile and gotten a lot of great info form all you guys so I wanted to share some of my own.
I've been going back and forth on what kind of smoker to build/buy. Well today the decision was kind of made for me. I have built a double barrel smoker using the Vogelzang kit with my father before he passed away. I love the smoker and was planning on building one for myself but was having a problem sourcing the drums for a decent price. The cheapest I was able to find was $25 each on Craigslist. That would have brought the cost up around $250 (I wanted 3 drums so that I could over size the cooking compartment lid and make a diffuser) once all was said and done and that was a little more than I was wanting to spend. So with that revelation I decided to just buy one of the horizontal offset type and doing the mods that are described in many other post on here.
Well, today I found my drums in a very unlikely spot. I called up a soap manufacturer on a whim to see if maybe they had them. Well, they did and they said they had six (my sister wants one too) and they only wanted $5/ea!!! I said SOLD! Before any of you get nervous about chemicals, this soap manufacture is organic. They get oils that they use shipped in the drums. Best part, the oil is food grade, and KOSHER (won't be after I throw some ribs in)!!
So that's it, I'm making a double barrel smoker! I wanted to share this with all of u in case anyone else was having a hard time finding drums for a good price.
I will make a post of the build once I get going on it, and I'm sure I will have some questions along the way too!

Smoke on!

Thanks!Just thought it was an interesting place to find them...I had not thought of it until someone suggested it to me.

Just called them again to arrange pick up this weekend. Double checked on what they were. They are in fact food grade and held either coconut or olive oil! Winning!
