Hello from the Great Lakes State

I am new to SMF.  I have grilling and BBQ for years on Weber kettle grills and gas grills. I just purchased my first electric smoker.  What a great purchase.  I have great success with Boston Butt,kielbasa, jerky, baked beans.  Love my Weber but can't get that low and slow. I am doing a brisket for first time appreciate any hints.  What beer (don't say any) goes best.

Welcome to the forums, Jburly!  Glad you've joined us.  You've found a great place to learn and share ideas on our favorite pastime...grilling and smoking great food!  There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable people here who really enjoy helping one another.  Just ask when you need help and you'll get plenty!

 

Best advice for a brisket is stay patient.  A rule of thumb on time estimates is 1.5 to 2 hours of cook time per raw pound of meat.  Shoot for an internal meat temperature of 190*-205*, and when a toothpick glides into the meat like into butter, he's done! 

 

I personally like a nice amber beer with beef.  My favorites are Negra Modelo (technically its a dark, not an amber...but very mild for a dark) and Dos Equis Amber, but there are dozens of great ambers out there.
