New to the forum but have been a "backyard smoker" for 15 years or so.   No real education on the subject, just kind of found my way, picking up things here and there by talking to some others and lots of trial and error.

Kind of surprised that I actually got into smoking, given that I was force fed a lot of really awful tasting meats that my dad oversmoked throughout the years.   Man, let me tell you, God rest his soul, but he LOVED the sight of tons of smoke billowing out from the top of his Mr. Smoker for long durations.  Seriously, 12 hours of thick, solid smoke any time he cooked a turkey.

Anyways, I got started years ago with a Smoke Hollow 34165d.  Don't know what # that would make it, or if the numbering system started later as it and it's brother are pretty old.

After years of listening to me complain that whomever designed my smokers had to be evil because this beautiful thing

Always ended up being treated like this:

due to the fact that the smokers were too small;

my brother surprised me with this early birthday present:

Being the cautious and timid person that I am, I eased into using my new smoker by throwing this in it for it's maiden smoke:

And these:

And these:

And these:

Here's a group photo of all the participants:

Haven't calculated the total weight, but overall count was 1 Prime rib, 3 Boston butts, 3 racks of St Louis Spares and 6 racks of Baby Backs    :)

Think I might have overdone it just a bitm but hey, it all fit in there and I still had some rack space left over   :)

Anyways, happy to have found this site and look forward to learning quite a bit here.

Way to break in that new smoker
Welcome, Demosthenes9. That's a great looking smoker and some fine looking meat.

Thanks !!

I must admit that I committed the cardinal sin of not getting any QView of the finished products.  :(

Thanks SeenRed.   WRT me being a "seasoned veteran", it's a kind of yes/kind of no thing.   I've learned some things here and there over the years, and I'm pretty knowledgeable within my "comfort zone" so to speak, but the depth of knowledge I have seen while poking around here is amazing, along with the huge variety of information there is to be had.

So, on one hand I'm a "vet", but on the other hand, I'm a newb   :)

Welcome to the family!

You have a fantastic setup!!!

Thanks Bill!.  Funny thing is that most my friends and family think I'm nuts.  Along with the 3 smokers I have now, I also have a Weber Genesis Silver gasser, two Brinkmann Pro Series 2700 6 burner gassers and a Weber One Touch Silver 22" coal burner.

Yep...it's hard for non-bbq folk to understand us.  My wife thinks I have too many grills and smokers now, I think I just need a new building to house more!
