Ever have a problem that no matter how you resolve it you are not happy with your answer?

Looking for different idea :-)

If you are cooking somewhere, not your house, how do you carry your cooking knives?

Every idea I come up with seems to prove a hassle one way or another?

What is your method?

i keep a plastic tote to take mine when i travel. the exception being my 12 n 14in granton slicers. i have a piece of pvc tube with 2 caps. if i'm taking any of my GOOD knives in the tote, i wrap each one with a rag n rubber band to keep wrapped n away from lesser knives.

I use a Yak Pak knife roll and it works pretty good

I have always used knife rolls or bags. If it is a very expenisve knife or delicate one. I will put a knife guard on it as well.

I had built something very similar, it was my best so far, I believe I will need to look at these

Got to agree on a knife roll or bag, at the very least a good plastic tote or toolbox.

Knife roll works well, if you dont have one you can do two easy things: 1) wrap the knives in a towel - place one knife at edge of towel, roll it up till knife is completely covered, place second knife, and repeat, ect., ect., secure ends of towel with twine or heavy rubberbands. 2) make a cardboard sheath for each knife - cut a rectangle of cardboard slightly longer than the blade and almost twice as wide as the blade. Fold the cardboard in half lengthwise place the knife into the crease and then use two heavy rubberbands to hold it all together.

I just usually take a sharpener and use what is available. Most of the time, unless boning out whole sides of pork or whatever, I can make do.
