Hi I'm Aaron in Hawaii. I've never smoked meat before but I'm hoping once I do it I'll love it. I like the idea of taking cheap cuts and making good meals out of them.

I just got a char-griller duo from lowes, and I've got a question about smoking for a long time without having the firebox (everyone that writes about this grill seems to have the firebox). To smoke for 5 hours or so, do I need to just bit the bullet and get this box? Or do any of you do it without it?

Thanks. Looking forward to sharing my experiences on the forums.

I have used a few different CGs with and without the SFB.  I find that having the SFB is a must.  Also search this forum for examples on a charcoal basket for the SFB, without this long smokes are almost impossible.

I also used a wire grilling basket for a few years as a charcoal basket in the SFB for a few year.  only problems was that I had to shake it periodically to get rid of the ash.
