Just got an unused new braunfels black diamond smoker that has been in storage since 1993. Good or bad smoker?

Isn't that one the 16 inch? I understand that to be a pretty good one. Same company that used to make OKJoes when they were good smokers I believe. I smoked on a 16 inch OKJoe once and made an OUTSTANDING brisket.

That's exactly what I have acquired without the mods of course. I hope it holds a temp better I also have a chargriller absolutely hate it

It will...... The thicker steel will hold temps better.... An easy mod is to add a piece of aluminum flashing rolled up and stick it into the bottom of the smoke stack and extend the smoke stack down to the grate

Its a great smoker.. I just made it better

Thank you I will do that it also has a propane fire starter for the firebox should I remove it?

I think brinkmann took them over and went with cheaper manufacturing. It looks like the smokey joe is in the same class now as the old braunfel's

How about some pictures... i dont know of a propane fire starter

1086 ,

Welcome to the neighborhood. I too have a NB purchased in '92. It's the RedRiver model . Very same as yours , but with a stainless shelf instead of the wood, like yours.

I've had 22yrs. of great smoking , had it repainted , reverse flow mod. , and some really rough hadling by my Son. I'll never get rid of it, it is a 16"er too.

I'll be doing a little welding on the legs and handles  this Spring , and maybe go 4-wheeler with it ( getting hard to lift and pull the little Beast around now).

Here She is next to Her big Sister.

Hope you have as much fun with Yours as I have mine .

Have fun and...

Wow that is awesome. I guess I really got lucky with this unit. Does yours have the propane starter for the firebox?
