Is there a way? Only reason I am asking is because I had a propane smoker and got the tube smoker and 100 pounds of pellets for Christmas. The problem is I also got the chargriller kamado from my wife so I took the propane smoker back as I only had it for about a month. I tried it with wings and it died out after 10-15 min. Is it gonna be to much of a low oxygen environment especially when trying to get down in the 250 range for low and slow? Any Ideas? Where would be the best place to put it to get air and away from the coals to keep flareups away?

I have an old Casa Q that I am refurbishing. I had wondered if I could use the 18: AMNTS that I have. My thinking is it would need to be placed at the lower vent. I could do that with the Casa Q as it has a large vent. I would need to get the 12" tube though as the 18" is to large to rest in the bottom of the smoker. It appears that the intake vent on the Chargriller may not be big enough to slide the tube through?

I plan to try it out once I get it up and running this spring.

Ya the intake is small no way it would fit in there. I was thinking maybe build the fire on one side and put a fire block in the middle and the tube on the other side. I still don't know if I will be able to get enough oxygen to it to get it to burn though. It seems the intake will have to be almost closed to keep a sub 250 temp. Just seen that microwaving the pellets before hand drys them out and helps burn easier so may try that. When I tried it I done a minion type with a pyramid and the tube off to one side. I think the lump took all the oxygen from the tube is why it went out. Was just wondering if anyone has any success with it in a kamado type.

I only have experience right now with using it in the GOSM (propane smoker).  I do have to make sure that the burning end of the tube is close to the side air intake when I'm running the smoker at higher temps. I would suggest using small splits or chunks of wood with the lump for smoke. Use the tube and pellets for cold smoking and make yourself some cheese, smoked deviled eggs, and Bacon!!!

Charcoal used up all the available oxygen

It's just the nature of the beast.....

If you place the Tube Smoker adjacent to, and before the charcoal, you should be OK

I know it will work for Cold Smoking, and if you just can;t get along with it, send it back, and I'll refund your purchase price.....Pretty Simple!!

Oh no I would not think of returning it. It works to well for that. Like others said I can use it for cold smoking If I can't get it to work in the kamado.

I ordered a kamado from Costco and I am waiting for it to be delivered, so I have been reading the forums a lot and I remember about someone just putting the pellets randomly mixed in the charcoal like you would the would chips/chunks. I think it was on another site. I have been researching everything because this will be my first kamado cooker.

Don't think the pellets are goung to last long among the coals. Why not just a couple of chunks?
