First of all I want to thank all who put the great post on this web site.  You have made me a much better smoker.  So far since Thanksgiving I have done 3 turkey, and salmon and all came out great.  I did do a prime rib last year for New Year Day but my butcher had cut and tie it up.  I pick one up the other day 4 3/4 lb at 6.99lb and doing it tomorrow for the Georgia football game.  This one has not been cut or tie.  I have the butcher twine but not sure how to cut it.  I found on a post that said make a single cut across the inside edge of the bones but don't cut it completely off.  Not sure where they are saying to make the cut.  Do I make one cut by each rib? or do I only make one cut like I am cutting off all the rib but don't cut all the through?  Again thank for all the help and great post all you make to this site.  Happy New Year to all

I don't cut the bone off at all when I do mine. I just leave it intact. We like the bone there when we serve it. I know some that cut it off after. If you want to cut it off before or after cooking run you knife Perpendicular between the bones and the roast.

I like to cut the bone off then place it back on and tie just to cook. Then when its done I have some ribs to snack on while the roast is resting.

To you still tie it up?
I suppose you could, but just putting back on top it'll sit there just like if you hadn't cut it off. Kind of like why not wait until you cook it?? Like I said we like the bone on when we serve, who doesn't like chewing meat off a bone, especially a smoked bone!
