planning my first overnighter for next weekend and i am going to order the BBQ Guru to help with this. i do not want to go to sleep worrying about fuel. looking at a 20+ hour smoke.

i plan on putting as much royal oak lump as the fire ring can fit.

my worry is running low on fuel in the early morning while still sleeping.

when adding fuel to it i just add unlit lump on top of the lit stuff?

actually smoked with royal oak yesterday and didn't like it. was easier to use and less chemical smell while lighting but the resulting food wasn't any better and the lump burned awful quickly. 1/2 fire ring full and 1/2 chimney to light and it was burning at 200 deg in about 5 hours. burned at 290ish for the prior 4 hours. went way too fast. had that been Kingsford blue it would have easily been 8 hours at temp.

so today i found a store and bought  bags of Wicked Good weekend warrior briquets. i have read great things about these. we'll see.

Hey Drew,

I have been cooking with a WSM for a couple of years now.  You are correct, the RO will burn faster.  I use Mr. Stubbs all natural briquettes and don't get any chemical taste or smell.

If I pack the ring full, by hand, I can get 18 hours out of one load at around 225*, depending on the weather (wind, temp, etc.).  This is of course using the Minion method.

Good luck buddy!

Amen brother!  That is what is so great about this forum, if you are seeing it someone else already has!

Good luck and let us know how it turned out - don't forget the Q-view.
