Hello, I will try to explain what is going on but I am by no means an expert on propane systems so this could be nothing important.

When turning on the smoker to heat it up, the inlet from the propane hose to the burner is randomly starting on fire outside the burner housing.

The tank is full, and only other thing I was thinking is that maybe the regulator is freezing because it is about 30* out right now. The burner never seems to loose power.

Any ideas on what it could be?

UPDATE: I wrapped the regulator in a rag and it seemed to be helping, went inside to get the pork out and when I come out it was on fire again and had melted the ignitor and control knob.

Not sure if returning is an option but how would I check the venturi tube

  1. Have you conducted a leak test with soapy water?
  2. Run a venturi brush (I believe Home Depot/Lowes sells them) through the venturi to clean out any spiders/insects. If you can't find at HD/Lowes, Amazon has them.

Remove the burner and inspect it for blockage, between where the hose hooks up, and the burner itself...  check the hose to be sure it is correctly hooked to the burner.... check the orifice, unscrew the hose and the orifice is the first thing the gas passes through to get to the burner, it is a small hole that regulates the gas flow....
