I have an aversion to hearing my own voice, so this video has no speaking, but this is the "smoke" my bird is getting right now, and it scares me that is going to ruin the bird. Help!!!
Actually, it was closed all the way, just like it was last night. When I opened it, that's when I had a fire flare up. I did not soak the chips last night, or the first batch this morning. After it went crazy, I added water to the chip pan in an effort to keep the chips from catching fire. After awhile, I ended up with TBS. When it stopped, I added some more soaked chips, and it just went crazy with the smoke that looks like they were on fire after only being in there for about 5 minutes. I am so afraid this bird is going to taste horrible. Is your top vent open? If not, open it. If it is, did you soak the wood? Are you using chips or chunks?
Really? I thought the added oxygen created by opening it was the reason for the fire last night. OK, since you're a moderator, I will open it all the way. Thanks for the replies and help. Happy Thanksgiving!!!The top vent should be open all the way when ever you are smoking.....
Did you see the video? I will feel much better if that was steam, but it sure looked like smoke. I hope you are right. When it went crazy with the soaked chips what you were seeing was steam not smoke as the water on the chips was vaporizing.
No bottom vent on this smoker as it's an electric; just the one at the top. I hope it's OK, thanks.i bet it's going to be ok.top vent always open. control heat with bottom vent, and or amount of wood.
I actually just got off the phone with them a couple minutes ago. They are sending out a new retrofitted chip housing unit and new remote (didn't work). Great customer service so far,Anyone have info on the recall? I googled it but came up empty. Maybe you could post the info in a new thread here. Thanks
