I do have experience with grilling. Bought a small grill that is used for family and myself. I then attempted to see if I can try smoking with it using some guides to try to get indirect heat, regulate temperature and so on. Wasnt bad, but definitely not as good as almost all smoked food pictures shown here.

A few problems on choosing a smoker, I cant spend much and dont require a large one. Ive checked a couple smokers shown such as ECB smokers, UDS, and also the brinkmann vertical charcoal smoker.

The round ECB and vertical smoker with 2 doors are possibilities to me. Total price should be fairly close. 39 dollars for cheap brinkmann + 20-30 dollars for mods or 70 dollars for vertical charcoal smoker. (or +15 with vegetable wok and better thermometer. I personally want a UDS. If purchased right, I think i can get it total for around 50-60 dollars since I know there are a few places on craiglist that sells food grade drums for very low prices. Problem is that I dont have room to burn the can, nor money to get it sandblasted.

So my questions are the following.

Of the three mentioned above, any suggestions on which one would be best? Are there any other options for a poor guy like me?

(There is also a meco charcoal and water smoker from walmart, but dont see any info on it)

Just from the looks I would go with the vertical 2-door. Easier access and more vents to control air flow. This will work great with an AMNPS for cold smoking too..JJ
