Yesterday, I had the chance to smoke about 230 pounds of butts to raise money for a group of people from church to go to Moldova on a mission trip. Moldova is a small country over by Russia. Each person will have to pay almost $2000, so We had the chance to help them out.
Here is how it all started:
Our local grocery store ran these on sale a few weeks ago for $1.18/pound. We also, as a church, get a 10% off, so we got quite a deal. We did our best to pre-sale, so after we surpassed all this below, I had to go and buy 4 more butts for a total of 22 butts, about 230 pounds. All of them we from 10 to 12 pounds each. I think there may have been a small one or two around 9 pounds.
Then, after gathering my stuff, we mixed up 12 batches of Jeff's rub. I won't use anything but this. It is the best:
We had some help last Friday night slathering and rubbing them down.
Saturday morning rolled in early at 4am, so with the help of a friend, we got his Backwoods loaded down.
By 3pm, these puppies were done and ready to go to church to be pulled:
And ready to be packed into 1 pound containers:
And ready for my beautiful daughter to pass out during the pick up time.
So all in all we ended up with right at 115 pounds sold. The last couple are to be picked up later today or tomorrow. And we raised over $650 taking off the cost of the meat.
Thanks for looking. We had a great time doing this.
God bless,
Jason
