South Mississippi, USA
Hello all -

I live in South Mississippi, about 85 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico.  I grill several times a week on my awesome lil Weber Q, including steaks, tuna, whole sides of salmon, and sometimes home-made bread.  I'm looking to add a Weber charcoal and Weber Smokey Mountain smoker, but I decided to begin with the Master Forge electric sold by Lowe's, just to get started playing around with it.

I'm pretty ignorant as to smoking, but I wanna learn it all and could see myself eventually smoking turkey, fish, whole hams, prime rib, etc.  For now I'm going to begin small-ish with chicken and baby-back ribs (which I have not grilled before, strangely).

Thanks in advance for all the help and for making this site.

Thanks!  I'm so green I was not sure if the lava rocks went on the element in this electric smoker...found the assembly manual at Blue Rhino and got that sorted out, adjusted the door to close tighter, and now looking for some help here on seasoning/first smoking before I actually put food in it.  Now I'm not sure where to put the wood chips, ha.

I updated my profile, thanks, and signed up for the e-course.

Hello , rruckle . Welcome to the SMF. You have entered into a Hobby that has a very addictive nature about it...O.C.D. or  Obsessive Smoking Disorder.

This tends to lure you toward to meat section of every store you go into , makes your eyes glaze at the sight of Smokers, equipment and Spices.

You will find that you are constantly drooling out the corners of your mouth (thus leading to wearing Bibs when parusing our Forum ) ruining your shirts and having People think you are "Mental" or something (especially when they see you or hear of you taking pictures of  your BBQ to top send to 'other' nuts to look at...)

And lastly , and most importantly is , you will end-up having more Friends than you can shake a Rib at...

Have fun with your new Obsession and...

Im taking a guess that you have the masterforge electric bullet smoker. Red in color. If so its not a bad smoker for a beginner one. Iv done a lot of things in mine. I use wood chunks in it and you just put them on the lava rocks around the element. dont let them touch the element though or they might light up adding creosote and to much smoke. Iv cooked with the water pan empty and full and depending if you feel you need extra moisture. Space can be a problem if you dont plan it right but otherwise iv had a lot of food in there.

lol going to get my bib now...*drool*  Thanks, all :)  And yes, that is the grill I picked to begin and get the basics for now.  Thanks for the tips!
