My son left to Afghanistan 2 weeks ago. 1st time there but has 3 prior deploys to Iraq.

Said he is ok, doing some training and its freaking cold. I hate this place already he said, we dont trust the Afg army or police at all.

Going to be a long 5-8 months

Tell him to stay safe, and thanks

Prayer for you and the family that God will protect him and fellow soldiers, and bring them back home!

16 year Navy vet ,, I wish him a safe tour and my thanks to him for his service.  I do not agree with us being there but am so damn proud of our men and women serving.  My thoughts to you and your family also.  I know there are sleepless nights and the stress from worrying.  Sounds like he has experience so he will be okay.  My thanks again,, to both him and you.

Thanks everyone.

Yeah he been through it before, never gets easy. He did tell me that this is could be the last of the 82nd AA to rotate into the country.

Hey Rick thanks to your son and to you and mom for his service. We will keep him in our thoughts with good wishes for a safe return

Our thoughts and prayers are with your son and all of the brave soldiers that serve our country! The next time you speak with him, please tell him that there are a lot of people back home that are thinking of him and that we thank him for his service and that of his fellow soldiers. It sounds like he is experienced in these tours, so he will be fine and will be back before you know it. If I may make a suggestion, send him a big ol' box-o-sausages a-la Nepas and not only will his time pass quicker, but his belly will be happier, as well.

All the best, my friend!

Prayers for your son and his unit for a safe and speedy deployment. I echo what others have said and thank him and y'all for his service and the sacrifices him, mom & pop have made. Godspeed.

Always on our mind. We have two friends whose sons are over there. One is a Navy SEAL the other a Marine. The hardest part is not knowing very much on there where abouts and not hearing from them. There in Gods hands now. Good luck to your son and your family!

Rick I'm glad to hear that you got the phone call it's always good to hear from them while they are deployed. Tell him again thank you for his service we do appreciate it. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers

We wish him the very best and prayers go out to you and all your family until he returns!  Can you make him some spicy hot jerky to keep him warm and something to chew on?  Or can all the jerky makers on here make some and send it to you for him and his unit?  We could start a thread, post the preferred recipe, and ask for jerky makers to make up some and post where its to go to.  I'd be glad to donate $5 in lieu of making it, not an area I've explored yet too much!  They could backpack it and doesn't need refrigeration.  They're going to still be there until 2014.  What better project could there be?!

Great idea Pops! Maybe the site can set up a fund to donate money to. I'm sure plenty of people would make jerky! I'm in for any donation needed!  My son leaves for Marine Corp. basic training July11.

Wow

Thats very nice of y'all. I do send jerky and sticks over, i spray with potassium sorbate before i vac seal and blow hot air popcorn in the box so they have an extra treat.

Anyways

His unit is pretty remote with no chow facility. They all bought JetBoil backpacking stoves. If y'all want to send something they would like items they can cook with the hot water. Ramen noodles and that sort of stuff. I know they would all like it very much. I bought him a camera to take there, cant promise any pics though.

What a great bunch of SMF members here.

And from me and my wife.

Thank you all very much for supporting our troops.

I will be getting his new APO Address when he gets to camp.

Prayers to you and him...Its men and women like him that make this country great !!!! I know its not easy on you and your wife...My God be with ya`ll...
