Greetings from Southern Kentucky

Greetings! I broke down and joined a forum because this place is GREAT! So many great topics and wonderful advice. I haven't joined a forum in years (Having flamed out as a moderator/administrator of an active forum years ago.), but i think this is the place for me. I enjoy (obsessively) grilling, smoking, cooking and oh yes - eating. I have made my own sausage, successfully smoked a brisket or two and would prefer to grill on the porch than go out or cook in the kitchen.

Grill on the porch

I have become more of a foodie in recent years, due mostly to the fact that I've had more free time and resources. I'm an old guy who has married off his two sons and now mom gets to kick back and let dad do the cooking. I'm not complaining.

I am the publisher/owner of an arts, entertainment and events magazine in Bowling Green. Since I started it (4.5 years ago), the articles, people and events have inspired me to explore my inner chef and now I am grilling, smoking and cooking often.

I hope to learn a lot from you people - yes I'm selfish - but perhaps I can offer something useful in return.

My personal blog is http://davidandcarrie.wordpress.com where you can learn more (too much) about me and my foray into cooking, among other things.

David and Carrie Francis

Thanks again!

Thanks Dave!! So far I am impressed and spending too much time on here. (grin)

Yeah, this state (Commonwealth) loves their Bourbon! You mentioned Bourbon AND Mint Julep, but the Julep is just another way to drink more Bourbon. (grin)

From the May 2008 issue of my magazine...

Micki’s on Mains’ Mint Julep!
On the Historic Square, Downtown Bowling Green KY

6 fresh mint sprigs
1 tsp superfine sugar
crushed ice
3 oz Kentucky bourbon

Lightly muddle 4 of the mint sprigs with the sugar & a few drops of water in the bottom of the glass.

Almost fill glass with crushed ice.

Add bourbon & garnish with 2 springs mint.

I'm more of a Tequila man myself.

Cheers! And thanks for the welcome!

Thanks - yeah the fam has thinned out since the boys married - but thankfully it has also grown by two daughters. Here is a photo last year in June of the entire Francis clan. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!!!
