Be careful what pics you post...

I have found people using my Q-View pics for their own use on other sites be careful what you put on here and if you know who it is please tell them to stop. I would hate for everyone to stop putting up Q-view because one or two losers ruin it for everyone.

Thanks for the tip, Ecto.

Probably the same guys who know everything, but never smoked anything. Now they can put some Ecto pics up & prove how good they are!! LOL---It figures!

Actually it is copywright infringement and it is illegal.

Happens all over the net. It is stealing.

Some have the opinion that just because it is on the net it is free for them to use.

Some folks put a watermark on their pics stating not to use without permission.

Even if they did the right click disable the pictures on this site, there are still ways around it.

The best thing is to put a watermark on your pics with your name and to not use without permission.

But of course, when it comes to the qviews, you should feel "honored" that someone thinks it looks so good that they need to take the picture. They just have computer skill and not cooking skill!

Personally I like them doing it.

When they talk about how great they smoke things, but never show any, I figure they might be phonies, but they might not be too.

But when they actually post somebody else's pictures, and claim them for themselves, they are proving they really are phonies.

actualy it isn't ileagal in most situations as when you upload to the net with no other disclaimer or anything stating otherwise the picture is being uploaded to public domain and is free for use by anyone. which sucks.. I went through this a few year back on a salt water fish tank forum where I posted some pictures of my tank with different color light bulbs over it for comparason. I found out later that the retailer of the bulbs was using the pictures to advertise his bulbs. the only reason I was able to make a deal with him is because he was using them for personal gain, if he was not a retailer using them for advertising there would have been nothing I could have done as I uploaded the pictures to a public domain.

If you care about you pictures water mark them with your user name, if not.. be flattered

Correct. If it is for personal use and there isn't a copyright on the picture then it is considered public domain.

Sorry I am not wrong Steve.. Anything that is posted on the internet is automatically copywrighted. Everything published after 1970 is copywrighted.

Nobody has the right to steal someones photos and post them without the owners permission...period.

My fiance has been in publishing for 25+ years and is now a pretty successful web site designer...she knows her stuff...

fpnmf, that's certainly different from what I've been told by my customers' corporate lawyers. I don't know who is right and who is wrong (and quite frankly couldn't care less) but my customers gross well over 200 million dollars so I'd hope that they know what they are talking about. Then again, maybe they just don't care because they can drown people in court fees.

Many of them "steal" pictures from the Internet to use on their internal corporate letters/publications and claim that it is part of public domain. I'm certainly not arguing as I only know what I've been told by others. I'm just surprised that they [3+ international corporations] would put themself at risk over such a stupid issue.

Here is a summary.

Unless you have specific permission, you can not distribute, copy, publicly display, sell, or otherwise exploit or commercially use someone else's photos.

Photos posted on newsgroups are not yours to use. They are not in the "public domain." In fact, with extremely rare exceptions, no recently-created photo is in the public domain.

The "Fair Use" doctrine almost never excuses infringement of a photograph, particularly where the infringing use is commercial or where it hurts the market for the photo.

Copyright is normally valid with or without a copyright notice.

Copyright infringement is copyright infringement regardless of the infringer's motive.

People who infringe photographs are likely to be crushed in Court, and even have their businesses closed down.

Copyright violation may be treated as a serious crime, as well as a civil wrong.
