18.5" WSM + Cowboy Lump = One Loooong Quality Smoke

This is my first run using Cowboy brand lump charcoal.  Today I'm smoking a brisket and a butt.  I was planning for a long smoke so I was thrilled when I was able to run as long as I did without a fuel reload.

Filled the 18.5" WSM with about 18 lbs out of a 20 lb bag.  The ring was packed but I was still able to hollow out a small section in the middle of the ring to do a Minion Method.  I fired up a full chimney of Cowboy and dumped it in the middle.  I added oak wood chucks throughout the day.

I had the WSM built and the meat on at 9:45 am.  At 6:30pm the brisket was at 170* and ready for foil.  At 8:45 the butt hit 165* and was ready for foil too.  Almost to the minute, then the temps started to slowly fall off.  All day long the WSM held damned near perfect between 220* and 230* with almost zero tweaking to the vents.  Just for the math challenged, that's 11 hours without touching the smoker.

Now reloaded, and holding steady again at 225* waiting for final temps.

Very happy smoker here.  Will be using Cowboy again in the future.  I found it at my local Home Depot.

Wow, 18lbs for a single smoke (two meats though)? Roughly how long did the 18lbs last you?

Dude, that's some great mileage on the lump. Congrats on a good smoke. It's all good my friend.

Al - Don't you fret.  I've got a bunch of pics to post when I get done with this.  Now I'm reheating the brisket and the PP.  Also have a double batch of Dutch's beans on and getting ready to toss on the sausages.  Hopefully it's a good party!

Looking forward to the QView, as are many others. biggrin.gif

I'm sure it will turn out great, and the party will be a hit! first.gif

I suppose if you don't smoke food often, 1/lb lump an hour isn't too bad. I smoke/grill so often, that I had to get something that was more efficient. Just a little shocked, when I saw 18lbs burned, that's all. icon_wink.gif
