Hey everyone, I have been posting elsewhere on the site, not realizing this is the appropriate location to post my questions.

So here is a picture of what I have going on... really rough @ this point but I need to put my smokestack on.

Ok so, I put my dimensions/measurements into the pit smoker calculator excel page (250 gallon meat chamber and 55gallon firebox).... Its telling me I either need a 22 inch tall chimney with 6" diameter pipe OR about a 13 inch tall chimney if I use 8 inch diameter pipe.  PLEASE tell me, are there any objections to using such a wide diameter (8 inches) pipe for a smoke stack?

 

This will really get me over this lull im in, and get this BADBOY back on track!

Either a 6" or 8" diameter stacks seems large, and you gotta figure into it a damper or all your heat and smoke will pour out.

I would start with the smaller because it's a lot easier to make it bigger.  What is the size of the fire box to chamber opening?  It looks small from what I think I see.

Yeah RANDYA, the firebox to smoker opening IS very small.  I constructed it not realizing it had to be a certain size.  I am going to add in 2 more pipes to get the right size.

Cool!  I would rock and roll with it and adjust the chimney as needed if the 6" does not work.

The volume is key.  There is a calculator on this forum that will give you the correct sizes.  It is very important to have enough volume from the firebox to the chamber then from the chamber to the stack.  You want that smoke to move out of there without hanging around.
