Anyone with experience with a LSG El Patron

Relatively new grill so there are not too many out there yet. If you are not sold, what others are you looking at? What are your requirements? Are you looking for something comparable to the Masterbilt? Perhaps a pellet grill so you don't have to tend fire? Is it the cost of the Patron...

Best gasket for sealing cook chamber and firebox?

If your gaps will allow it, the rope type is excellent. I have used it on three different kamados (BGE, Primo, and Grill Dome) and it works very well with good longevity. However, I don't the clearance on my Lone Star offset would allow for it.

LONE STAR 20"X42" OR YODER YS640s

I owned a Yoder YS640 and sold it. It was built well but it didn't get much play time and was a PITA to clean up. I own several pits including two Lone Star Grillz stick burners. If I were to buy another pellet grill, I would buy the Lone Star since it is based on their 20x42 offset and is...

Worth Upgrading a Kamado Joe III?

I have a KJ Big Joe III. I also own two Lone Star Grillz stick burner pits; a 20x42 offset and a 24x48 Adjustable Grill and Smoker (AGS). I use the Big Joe and the AGS more than the offset. I do enjoy the offset occasionally but it requires a lot of fire tending to run it properly. That...

Stainless steel OK to use inside smoker?

Yes! Doesn't conduct heat as well as carbon steel but that should not be an issue.

    Lone star grillz IVC

I will go ahead and ask for the Board. I assume you the buyer to pick it up. So where is it?

My first smoke on my new OK Joe.

Looks like good success for your first run! Stick burners require a lot of fire tending and poking. That is the fun of it, when you have time. Please keep us posted on your journey with this pit.

    42" x 24" Elevated Straight Back - Shirley Fabrication

I would suggest it is radiant heat off the baffle on the fire end due to flame. Doesn't the flame lick the baffle plate a bit on that end? Would be interesting to check the temperature of the plate across its length. I am betting it is significantly hotter on that end due to the flame...

    42" x 24" Elevated Straight Back - Shirley Fabrication

Congratulations - a beautiful girl she is! The fabrication by Shirley is always impressive. You are going to enjoy that pit for sure. Share with us what your purpose for putting three temperature gauges on the door? I don't believe that is a Shirley standard is it?

    New LSG "Texas" Edition, thoughts...

I am a big LSG fan. I own two of their pits. I believe this one is driven by the finicky market and is a "me too" so they don't miss sales that otherwise might land with Franklin, Mill Scale, Shirley, . . . . . . . Franklin and Mill Scale started the trend and now everyone is getting on...

    greyish layer on meat

I believe your smoker is simply not hot enough. I took a quick look at the photos of it on the other thread. The diameter of the pit is relatively small and the pit is long. You'd be much better off with a larger diameter stack and stoke the fire. My son has a stainless steel pit that is...

    New LSG!

Congratulations on the new pit and getting it landed in its spot. You are going to need to be passing some BBQ over the rear wall frequently to your neighbors! That offset may give them a bit more smoke than they want!

    Smoke Diversion

I suspect that you will need to add an an in line axial fan in your exhaust to get it work well. I don't believe you have enough cross sectional area to capture and set up a natural draft. Most venting solutions I have seen use a larger hood with a fan. I had looked into this before and...

    Stainless offset build

Justin, the port for the fan is a decent idea particularly if you choose to run lump charcoal as the fuel. It gives you the opportunity to cook for a couple of hours using splits and then swap to lump and the temp control. That way you tend fire for a couple of hours and then put it on...

    Stainless offset build

Great looking design and it should be a thing of beauty. Yes, stainless is better than carbon steel relative to thermal conductivity and corrosion. Not trying to rain on your parade, but caution on a couple of fronts. A controller/fan doesn't work well on a wood fired pit. It doesn't know...

Any experience/recs for using Fireboard 2 or Signals?

Congrats on making a great choice. Fireboard really is the gold standard that the rest chase. Its data logging/history and cloud storage are awesome and when combined with their PID control and fan drive, it is clearly the one to have. I have experience with Signals and Fireboard. Signals...

    LSG 20x42

Outstanding! That's one of my favorite pits! Did you get the fire management basket with it?

    Best paint for stick burner

That's what LSG uses as well. It is quite soft until heat cured. I would not use it on the trailer.
