    Internal side fire box smoker

Thanks for checking it out Red. For fuel I have access to cherry, apple and pecan timber. The fire access will be a door that will be closed with vents to draw in air but the door could always be left open too. The idea would be to start a fire inside which would then be spread out and...

    Internal side fire box smoker

I've been using my UDS for sometime now but while cleaning up the shed I spied a 44gal drum that's begging to be smoking food. After some rough sketching I have come up with the below design. I need some advice on whether this design will work. The concept is to weld a plate 1/3 of the way down...

    Cheap/easy fire "box"

I used an air filter out of an excavator. Ripped all the paper filter out and used the steel cage that remained. It's slightly smaller than the normal fire basket that people make and it works well.

    Group for Australians?

I've checked twice and I'm fairly sure there is no group for Australians to join. Is there any way we can get a group started so us Aussies can share info on where to find materials, wood and to share local knowledge? Cheers, Matt

    UDS Shelf Bracket Ideas

I think they would work. I was just wondering if there would be a more simple design or other things people had used in the past. Hopefully I can get these in black. Do you think I would bolt the long side or short side to the drum? Table would probably need to be able to support a brisket or a...

    UDS Shelf Bracket Ideas

I've managed to locate myself a 44 gal drum (in Australia) for $5. Before I set off on my UDS build I want to make sure I have all the components ready to go.  I like the idea of a side table and I was really impressed with the side table blakepizzey had added during his UDS build...

    Woods used in Australia

I've been doing some research for us Aussies. If anyone is wondering what native woods we can use, here's an infographic I came across. Cheers, Matt

    Woods used in Australia

G'day guys, I'm wondering what types of woods are being used for smoking down under? Where do you get it from? In the past, I've used wood chips from Bunnings (similar to Masters) on a smaller scale smoking but I'd like to get some big chunks to use. Is it possible to use wattle? What else...

    Saying G'day

Hey everyone, I've been lurking this forum for months and months, collating information before jumping into the smoking world. I'm nearly there so I thought it was about time to sign up. In the past I've used a modified Webber "Go anywhere" to smoke the basics like ribs and small cuts of meat...
