I did a search and find many dated pellet reviews so tell me what your burning or feel free to post links to more recent threads or reviews.

I live near sacramento and have Me Mes to go to.  I got some of there brand which I think are rebranded Pacific Pellets.  So far so good.  But I think I can get Pacific pellets cheaper at sportsmans warehouse.

Obviously cooking pellets is an option since they are on amazon and qualify for prime

another one I am interested in is PItBoss that Target is selling.  On sale now for $25.49 free shipping over $25

I am interested in something that has an oak base for what thats worth as that is what I am used to cooking with when cooking with wood.  so any pointers there?

Looking for the best bang for my buck.

I've tried BBQ Delight, GMG & Camp Chef.... I just use the Camp Chef, they taste just as good as the others IMO.... But are $5 a bag cheaper !

Without question the Cookinpellets.com 100% hickory are the best pellets I've used and the obnly one I can actually taste a difference in when used. It is all I use now.

I saw these.  $32 for 40lbs.  Seems like a good deal.  Im using Todd's pellets and so far I'm really happy, particularly with the oak pellets!!!  I can definitely taste a diffs between hickory and oak.

Anyone use lumberjack brand? I have a dealer by me that sells 40 lb bags for $15. From what I am reading that others are paying, this seems to cheap for a quality pellet.

mrad - I've heard a lot of good things about Lumberjack pellets.  If you're able to easily get them at $15/40# I think you're all set.

nitis - I did my first cook using the PitBoss from Target that I got when they were $15.19/40# and they seemed fine.  Time will tell of course.  Consider doing the ship-to-store though as they might not get as beat up as the boxes mine were delivered in.  Haven't seen excess dust yet but it's a concern the more they're mishandled.

I use Lumberjack.  Bought a ton a few months back for 27.5 cents/lb ($11 a 40 lb bag).  I got the Hickory, MHC blend and OHC blend.  Love them!

mrad - $15 bucks a bag for single bags is a bargain!  Many people would kill to have that pricing available to them for single bags.

My Target says these are $26 for 40lb.  But what's neat is that they have individual pellets of hickory, apple, and have the competition blend.

How would you guys rate the Pitboss blend pellets ($26) vs the Cookinpellets 40lb blend ($33)?

I've just started into the first bag of Pit Boss comp blend, so it's too early to say.  They seem okay so far.  I've seen mixed reviews online, some saying they're fine and some otherwise.  I can't recall seeing anyone post that they were unhappy with CookinPellets, just that they weren't happy the price went up to $33.  :)  Best is probably just to try the two yourself and see which you like better in your pellet grill and for your cooking/smoking needs.  If Target were still selling the PB for $15/40# then it'd be an easy choice, but they're not. :(

Others I've seen but not yet tried: B&B at Academy Sports for $12/20#, Smoke Hollow" via SamsClub.com for $13/20#, and Louiiana (Danson) at ACE Hardware online for $32/40#

Being new to pellet grills I'm leery of overbuying pellets until I have a better sense of how much I'll be using.

Great info TY.  The lowest the CookinPellets price has ever been on Amazon was $25 in April 2013.  $32 is probably fair value.  I hope they are good.  Im going to try them and the Pit Boss ones at some point and report back.  So far Todd's pellets have been perfect.  Very happy.

I have Pit boss blend and CookingPellets perfect mix.  Pit boss heats up faster and runs hotter.  The perfect mix I was able to smoke fish at 125/130F without the fire going out. The Pit boss brand could go down to 165.  That's with the Pit boss 820 pellet grill.  Will definitely buy more CookingPellets.
  18. I Just got some Todd Johnsons hickory pellets and Used them today on ribs. .. i am new to smoking and this was my first use of these pellets and i enjoyed them very much, great smoke flavor. Before this i had tried a couple of different flavors of Traeger Pellets... not much there.

Next up will be his mesquite, maybe on some steaks.

I use lumberjack and they are only thing I will use also. I have had their 100 percent maple, hickory, and maple/hickory/cherry mix. All these are good and give great smoke. I'll try the oak next time once the skid we got are gone.
