Saying Hi

Discussion in 'Roll Call' started by baconjacobs, May 6, 2013.

  1. Hello, I am a long-time foodie that doesn't practice the craft of cooking nearly as often as I would like.  I started my bbq and smoking journey making and selling my own barbecue sauce at a local farmer's market in college, instead of getting a "real job" during the summers.

I was recently wandering down the aisles at Lowe's and found the market for electric smokers.  I had no idea that these existed and I am excited by the idea of applying new technology to a centuries old practice.  Originally I wanted to buy an MES 30 for ~$200 or build one myself.  I didn't think I could build one that would be better for the price, until I realized I had an old gas oven.  As an appliance engineer, ovens are my thing.  I now have that money I would have spent on the MES to build up a PID-controlled old oven smoker.

Just saying hi from Louisville, I hope to get the smoker project underway in the next few months.
