I just got my Oklahoma Joe highland smoker over the weekend and have done two short cooks on it so far.   I noticed all the leaks in the firebox and the lids and saw where most people have sealed it rope gaskets and RTV sealant.   I'm going to do the same.   i was just wondering from those who have done it before,  do i need to take the firebox apart to apply the RTV or can i just apply the seal on the outside?  any tips would be appreciated.

thanks

My opinion, it would more effective to take the firebox apart first in order to seal it with the rope gasket and RTV sealant.
