Grilled Chicken ~ Foamheart

    So I gave the smoker the night off. I fired up the mini tailgate pit and drew all the neighbors in. I know I am just such a tease! RAWR!

    So I split a fryer, its how I grill. Grabbed some Cajun sausage and a link of cajun HOT sausage outta the freezer. Wash and dry the bird, add the fan to make it all happy happy. I turn the fan off momentarilary and used my secret poulty rub. Whatcha ya mean it looks like just salt and pepper?

    The charcoal is all white, I whire brush the expansion metal grill, rub it down with my mopping solution. Look at that Thin Blue Smoke!!

    ROFLMAO.... Ok Ok.... let me explain. That storm that breezed thru here this week, has filled everything up with water... no I don't have a drain hole in this pit.

    It gets better I swear........

    Really It does!

    Well maybe not today....

    Come on... you know it does, about when the chicken is done.

    Soooooo..... that chicken is done perfectly. And all the water vapor has been steamed out.

    Looks around for Bear.......

    Grilled chicken, green beans, cajun hot sausage, mac & Cheese, and a tossed salad. Ready in the nick of time, the LSU was just starting.

    Chicken was split, washed and dried, rubbed with salt and pepper, put on the grill bone side down. was turned once at 10 mins., second at 10 mins., third at 15, forth at 15. Total of 50 mins on the grill. Grilling is a higher temperature. I mopped every flip after the first with a mixture of butter, apple cider vinegar and salt & pepper. Its almost as simple and easy at smoking.

    Chicken was delicious and juicy.

    BTW I Did drop pecan shells down in the coals about 1/2 way thru, just a little so as to give the illusion of maybe using a pecan split.

    Thats it this time for sure.

    That's a mighty tasty lookin plate Foam...I'd be on that in seconds flat!  Nicely done sir!  It's hard to beat a simple grilled bird... [​IMG]

    That's a great looking bird! Love a good grilled chicken and that's looks to be as good as it gets! Since I started smoking, I don't grill most meats that I used to grill, except chicken! I love it smoked, but it is SO good on the grill! Excellent job-thanks for posting, David.

    Thank ye Thank ye....... Don't think I ever thought to show a grilled chicken, I just always think of playing with the electricity these days.

    Thank you Sir, Its just hard to not like chicken period.
    I too have sort of left the pits to rust. Its a shame, I guess I just have too many toys or too little time. I have burned a lot of charcoal and splits in those pipes. There is just nothing as good as racks of spare ribs comming off grill, chicken too. And sausages......So ya have something to snack on with the liquid refreshments. I came here to learn about curing and have just stayed smoking. Its things I saw as a kid, I thought I might liike to do the right way. LOL

    Thank you for the compliment, of all the meats Chicken is really hard to beat.

    Great job Foam!  All this time I've been trying to keep the rain water outta my pit and here you are using it to your advantage!  LOL!

    Looks great!  You're posts always give me the itch to try new things.  Have grilled or smoked a chicken 100 different ways but never grilled a butterflied or halved chicken right over the coals, usually indirect the whole time.  On my to do list!

    heck weve been cutting the grass for two months aready.  If you lived here you wouldn't envy it. Grass is very high now because for over two weeks it been too wet to cut. Thinking of buying sheep! No shorts, mosquitos the size of eagles with all that rain.

    LOL its why we eat so well down here, ya never know which one will be your last supper. LOL

    Till I left for college thats the only way I ever saw it done. Its why all my good chef knives blades look like saw blades, from spliting chickens! I have seen 100's (yes thats a bunch), of chickens smoked or grilled split like that at one time, more than once. Easiest why I knew to do cook 'em before Costco or Sams sold 'em all cut up. I wonder if they even sell whole chickens in the old plastic coated cardboard boxes anymore? Those were the best boxes!

    Now that was a storm that blew the choo choo trains over...... I thought for sure I could get some sympathy. <Chuckles>

    Thank you Sir, which you were here to try it. My Pops mop is vineage and butter, its very distingtive (I know, I need a secretary). I love it.
