I built a double barrel smoker a couple years ago, & I was thinking about building a wall around the bottom barrel & enclosing it with dirt.  My thought is that it would give it better insulation, so I would use less fuel.  Of course I would leave the bottom door uncovered so I can add fuel/clean it out.

I was wondering if anybody has tried this or heard of anybody doing this....and whether it works/would be a good idea.  Thanks
