The store-bought elec Brinkman appears to have evolved from the Gourmet version. Has anyone had any experience in converting the bottom of the line, el cheapo version?

I have the "gourmet" version and have done nothing to it but drill two holes just under the top grate to insert a temp probe. I use it to monitor the temp of the smoker at the meat level.

The only "conversion" my 1975 "absolute bottom of the line ECB" will ever see is when it finally goes to the scrap dealer - converted to razor blades or the left front fender of your next new car. And that is a lot of smokin' down the road.

I have the same smoker. Charcoal though. drilled some holes in the charcoal pan for better air flow. Took the legs off and set it on concrete blocks so I can have access to the coal pan. The gourmet version took care of this problem.
Now that I know the supplied temp gauge is 65* low, I will planning on adding another temp gauge, if I can find one.
