You're on the West coast so it's not so rare. Our local Costco stores also has it and even in pre marinated and vacuum packed too. I think Harris Ranch brand on the pre marinated tri tips.

I shouldn't think anyone would want a pre marinated product to put in a smoker though. Especially if it's their very first Tri Tip roast.

I would recommend it its butchered on site then marinaded and sealed. Hottingers is well known in southern California for specifically their house marinaded tri tip.
