This recipe came from my great-great grandmother, ...over a 100 years old!

I didn't know Sweet Baby Ray's had been around that long. LOL

why? i just can't understand why you would do this....What makes you decide that the way you want to cook a nice rack of ribs is to boil them.....Have they ever had smoked ribs? Even throwing them on the grill i bet would be tastier and quicker...I am seriously confused by this.

I'm sure they're fairly tasty that way - but I'll keep workin' the smoker thanks icon_wink.gif

I have had a lot of success just making ribs in the oven, though, back before i had the GOSM. I put them on a rack over a shallow pan, cover in rub, pour a bit of apple juice in the pan, and then wrap the entire thing tightly in foil.

They come out incredibly tender (you can actually overdo it and make 'em too tender) - but no smoke flavor

She was cute but I was not impressed. Yea, I propose we get together, hunt these people down, tie them to an outdoor table, pull up a smoker & send TBS up their noses until they convert. I wonder why membrane-slathered-in-sweet-BBQ-sauce taste good to some people? Oh well, at least we got a good laugh out of it.

Allot of folks boil ribs. I never could bring myself to do it. The one time years ago when my Brinkman bullet failed me I was in a pinch. I rubbed and folied some baby backs and put them in the oven at 180 degrees for 5 hours. I then put them on my grill with a box of hickory chips over one of the burners. I turned out pretty decent. Nothing like what comes of my Traeger or GOSM for that matter. I Say NO to boiling!PDT_Armataz_01_36.gifMy own humble opinion...

I Boiled my ribs once about 4 years ago on my first attempt at making something tasty. Failed miserably and they just did not taste right so never tried again. Really glad since then I have stumbled into smoking and learned the ways of the rib.

I'm new to smoking foods, but I've never boiled ribs, I have a friend whose ex-wife did this, and he said these things are the most fall of the bone ribs, and I was like yeah, but where is the flavor?

Well, if they would add some diced onion, some taters and some carrots and maybe some Old Bay seasoning, I'd bet they would have a tasty pork rib soup!!

My uncle brags about his ribs and he does the same thing. He either pressure cooks them or boils them. People like that don't know what good BBQ tastes like. They think good BBQ ribs are ribs that fall off the bone when you grab them. If they don't fall off the bone then they aren't any good.

I grew up with my dad boiling ribs and then cooking them on the grill afterwards, which he learned from his dad. It is a quick way to cook ribs and make them tender. Dont taste too bad, but nothing like smoking them. Pretty simple, big pot o water, onions, vinegar, pickling spice and a few other spices. Boil them, but not too long. while boiling prepare charcoal or my dad used a gas grill. put them on and cook for about half hour to give a little smokey flavor....ad sauce, serve. if you want them to fall off the bone, wrap them in tinfoil and put back onthe grill for another half hour after sauce is applied.

he has since grown up and graduated to a traeger....going home to visit this summer, will have to show him how it should be used....

Yeah, i have done it more than a few times. When i was in college. If i saw ribs on sale i always bought a few racks...no smoker. Just a range and a grill. Boiled them...finished them on the grill with sauce. Better than Ramen Noodle and Cheff Boyardee!!

If you look in the instruction/recipe book that comes with the "Showtime Rotisserie", I think that is what they tell you to do. Something like "Bring them to boil, simmer for 15 minutes, maybe a half hour (I forget), then rotate them for about 1/2 hour or so. I guess if you're going to use the "Showtime", it's your best way???
