Turkey question.. your opinion wanted

I will be doing my first Thanksgiving smoke soon.

Is there a taste difference between boy (tom) and girl (hen) turkeys?

I am going to get a fresh turkey if they aren't too expensive. The frozen free range ones were $5 a pound (ouch)!!

Can't remember which is which but I know that one is more tender when younger and one is more tender when older, and reversed.
I'm sure someone who knows will let you know shortly.

Don't know for sure.


But I can tell you that no turkey is worth 5 dollars a pound IMHO.

Typically the younger the better for either, but, hens are more tender than toms.

I cann't recall if the turkey that I have gotten in the past was a tom or a hen I thought they were turkerys. This year I will look to make sure. Then it most be true that even girl birds are tender and sweet hum. Go figure.
