I need help finding a good slaw recipe, please!

For some reason I can't seem to pull up any searchs on this forum.
Can one of you point me to a good Slaw recipe ?

Best homemade slaw I've tried;

Instead of a head of cabbage I just buy a bag of pre-cut slaw and then make the dressing.
cups finely diced cabbage (about 1 head)
cup diced carrots
tablespoons minced onions
cup granulated sugar
teaspoon salt
teaspoon pepper
cup milk
cup mayonnaise
cup buttermilk
1 1/2
tablespoons white vinegar
2 1/2
tablespoons lemon juice
  1. Cabbage and carrots must be finely diced.
  2. (I use fine shredder disc on food processor.) Pour cabbage and carrot mixture into large bowl and stir in minced onions.
  3. Using regular blade on food processor process remaining ingredients until smooth.
  4. Pour over vegetable mixture and mix thoroughly.
  5. Cover bowl and refrigerate several hours or overnight before serving.

Hey Dan, posted this over in your butt thread but I'll put it here as well.

Here is the slaw recipe I use all the time.
No mayo and no ketchup. Slightly sweet and white vinegar based.

One bag coleslaw mix or a medium head of cabbage and some shredded cabbage (I usually just buy the mix).
Half an onion diced, red or white
1-2 stalks celery chopped up (optional)
1/2Cup white sugar
1/2Cup white vinegar
1/4Cup vegetable oil
1tsp salt
1 1/2tsp dry mustard
black pepper to taste

Mix coleslaw mix or cabbage with carrots and onions.
Pour sugar over top and toss, set aside in the fridge (or prep this right before you pour liquid on)
In a small saucepan mix the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
Allow liquid mixture to cool completely. Once cooled pour over coleslaw mixture and toss.
Let sit for at least 24 hours or up to a week tossing at least once a day.
Drain excess liquid right before serving and enjoy.
Everyone who has tried this loves it and it is amazing on top of pulled pork sammies.

Do you guys like to put the slaw on your pork sandwiches? I though it was the nastiest sounding idea ever until I tried it and now I won't eat a pork sammie without slaw on top!PDT_Armataz_01_12.gif

I'm not even a fan of slaw myself but I'll be damned if I will eat a pp sammie without it on top.
Just something about the sammie and slaw, a match made in culinary heaven!

We have it on home made sloppy joes too, it's great! We don't eat enough to justify making it anymore with the kids gone, however; we just buy ½ lb. of it at the deli, just right for a meal. If we get the chance we love the KFC slaw and will stop and pick up a container of it; Popeye's is good, too - will probably get some tonight, have to stop and get their drum and thigh for 99¢ special they have every Tuesday; 4 bucks and you got an 8-piece bucket of chicken on the cheap! Then save the slaw for Wed. night sloppy joes.

My slaw recipe is pretty simple.

Half head of cabbage. Chopped very fine (not shredded - like you'd chop an oinion)
1 small oinion fine chopped.
1 medium carrot peeled and finely grated
1 eating apple, peeled and grated/
about 1/4 tsp cbp
2 tsp honey
And enough mayo to just give a very light coating.

for an extra colourful mix use half white cabbage (green) and half pickled red :-)

Here is the one I use. I can highly recommend it. Whenever I bring it anywhere it disappears quickly.

I've been using the one as IrishTeaBear posted for about 15 years now, it is the only one I make and everyone loves it.
