Hey all, great forum. I'm building a horizontal smoker with a side fire box. The dimmensions will be 18"x22" dia. for the fire box and 36"x22" dia. for the cooking chamber. I have read the mods for the char griller and plan to incorporate them on here. One quetion I have is do I still need a baffle if I cut the opening just under the tuning plates? Also any ideas or things you wish you had to make smoking better please let me know. Thanks, SPM

I would say the baffle is more important than the tuning plates. It will divert heat from coming directly in contact with just part of the cooking chamber and also help direct it across to the opposite end.
