Hello everyone,
I just bought the ET-73 remote thermometer as advised by SMF. I need to ask how or where do you put the smoker probe???? I dont want to just lay it on the grate.

Some stick it through a potato myself I use a scrap piece of wood with a small hole drilled in it.

I'll be trying my 73 tomorrow for the first time also. I've seen pic's of them stuck thru apple's, potato's and blocks of wood with a hole in it. Hope this helps.

It wont read the temp of the potato or wood?
No, not if you push the probe through where the point sticks out the other side of the potato.

Trying to remember didn't it come with a clip that holds the probe and clips to the rack
post #7 of 15
Mine did, little metal clip, I clip it right to the grate
But I have used a block of wood too when I use it in my oven
where the grates are too wide for it to clip to

Use the clip.

I use a cork.Keep those batteries fresh.

The clip doesn't work all that well depending on your grate space width.

Use a block of wood or potato and push the probe through the block so that an inch or two of the probe is sticking out.

The temp is measured at the tip of the probe (or very close to it).

Dan - good to hear you're enjoying the new therm!

I use the clip... under the grate so it doesnt take up space for food. It rides just about an inch below the food and gives an accurate reading .
