Newbie Smoker?

I just got a new smoker and I can't wait to use it.

I have done some reading a understand the basics, but I have a few questions.

The unit I have is a Centro digital smokehouse, is this a good smoker?
How long and at what temp should I smoke a 4lb outside round roast?
Any other tips for my first smoke?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Swing on over to roll call and introduce yourself to the other members, tell us a bit about yourslef when you get a chance. Although I have not seen your smoker in action, I have seen them and they appear to be a pretty good unit. I personally have not done a roast, pretty much a sausage guy here, but be patient. There will be plenty of members here offering their suggestions. One thing I would say you should get is a good digital thermometer. One that reads the smoker temp as well as the temp of the meat. And dont forget. When starting your first smoke, take some photos of the whole process and post them here. Lance welcome to SMF glad you joined us. I moved your thread to the roll call section. If I'm not mistaken that smoker is also called an MES smoker and quite a few of our members use them. I'm really not familiar with an outside round roast as it seems different areas call cuts of meat by different names. Most meats are smoked at a temp of 225 and generally take about 1.5 hours per lb as a general rule but we go by internal meat temps. Have fun and happy smoking

Just bought a traeger 075 yesterday I have two stuffed pork loins and a beer can chicken on it right now

smoker gone bad!!

I bought a cheap smoker at Walmart and cooked a boston but 2 weeks ago and it turned out great. I smoked some ribs yesterday with mesquite wood chunks and the meat tasted like chemicles also thethe smoker started to leak ablack resin that looked like black high gloss spraypaint. What the heck happened. At on point the smoke turned almost yellowish brown. I don't know what happened so I'm throwing out the smoker and getting another one, unless someone gets me some advise.

First of all, welcome!! Second, Artydoc, take that smoker back to Wal-Mart and demand your money back! Something went very wrong there. What brand of unit was it? If you know, you can look in the equipment forums to see if anyone else has this problem. Good Luck.

Welcome, Lance! I agree with other posts here who suggest you read Jeff's ecourse. This'll get you goin for starters. Your gonna learn alot here, lots of helpful folks.
