Added Temp Gauges to my GOSM

Thought I would add two exterior facing temperature gauges to my GOSM to keep better track of the internal temps. I had been using oven thermometers, but they just got too messy and difficult to read during an intense smoking session.

The gauges are from Old Smokey - Model BT-1 with a 2 inch dial. Paid $10.00 for each. Installed between the top and second racks and just above the bottom rack to give an idea of the temperatures in the locations where I do most of my smoking at.

Here is a picture of the gauges installed.....

Will let you all know how this mod works out during my next smoke this coming weekend..... PDT_Armataz_01_34.gif

Definitely keep us in the loop. I have a GOSM and use an ET-73, but it couldn't hurt to have a few extra sensors just in case. They look like they belong there.

Just a quick shot of the temp gauges setting up to smoke temp during today's smoke.....

You can see the minor difference in temp between the top and bottom gauges and it is real handy to be able to look out from the Family Room and see what temp the smoker is at. PDT_Armataz_01_06.gif

Definitely recommend this as a standard mod to be done to the GOSM smokers. PDT_Armataz_01_37.gif

very cool. i think i'm going w/ a 3 gauge frame for a racecar & do 3 temp gauges w/ probes for the grates on the brink end/mid/end.

looks good. those are the exact same thermometers i have installed in my smoker door. you did test them first, right? on mine, the left one is 5° off, and the right one is 3° off. i have it wrote down in the back of my smoke log. they both read higher then 212° in boiling water by the referenced temps before.

Mine were both off by less than 10 degrees and I annotated the diff too...... icon_smile.gif

I added two to mine before I seasoned it. One low on the left, one high on the right. They do help. Mine runs 15-20 deg. difference between top and bottom.

Thanks for this tip/suggestion Watery Eyes. I ordered mine on Monday so I hope to have them installed before this weekend.

Hello Peculiarmike, did you install both gauges on the side because it may have been easier than doing it on the front door? Or would they get in you way whenever you open the door? The main reason I ask is because I'm disabled and when I get my GOSM Big Block I plan on doing most mods before seasoning. I may also put it on a raised platform with casters for easier access without bending down so much, I use a walker/wheelchair. I like to plan ahead whenever possible. I will have pics as I go along.
Thanks a Lot.
