Hello everyone,

My name is David Douglas and I am in Tucson, AZ. I have been smoking for almost 6 years since my last deployment to Iraq (it helped me with my PTSD). I have been using a pellet smoker and now for the last 1 1/2 I have moved to a side firebox smoker, with my new one just getting finished.

My one big question would be smoke flow, with the new smoker that I built it seems like it flows great but when I open the door there is a lot of smoke inside too. The smoker its 6' long, 20" dia, with the stacks being 2 2" at 26" tall. the firebox is 24"x24"24. pictures to come later when I can move them from my phone.

Thanks for all the help,

David Douglas

David, welcome to SMF, and thank you for your service!  Glad you are here and looking for answers.  Pics would help folks a lot to figure out if a problem even exists.  As long as the smoke is blue and there's not piney, sharp creosote taste, you may be just fine.

Looking forward to the pics.

Hey David, glad you could join us. I also started smoking after coming home from Iraq. Definitely very therapeutic for sure. There are a lot of knowledgeable builders here that can help you get squared away.

Welcome from SC, David. Thank you for your service. It's good to have you on this great site. IMO, with a CC and a FB of that size, it appears to me that your exhaust is really under sized. Try to consult Feldons calculator, available on the site, and do the math. It should help to eliminate the smoke back up and also keep the CC free of bitter creosote.
