Had to say goodbye to my old char griller. Such a shame. Got me a new lowes special in thr Oklahoma Joe's special.

Here is my first smoke with no mods yet. Just foil around the leaky openings, which didn't require alot.

Thanks Al!

Thinking I have a problem now though lol.

It's gonna be cooked long before it's time to eat. I way over estimated the cooking time this time.

It's at 189* right now, it's 10am here and dinner is at 5pm! Lol

I've let them rest for around 2 hours wrapped in blankets before. But this could a long time.

Not real sure what to do. I've dropped the cook temp down to 200 ish in hopes of slowing it down. 9.7lb for reference.

Made a little bbq sauce to go with it! My first time doing that haha.

Hahaha. I did it again didn't I lol.

It ended up turning out fine. Actually it ended up being the best pork I've ever smoked. Juiciest, savory etc. It was weird.

So what I did was throw it in the oven, wrapped of course and put the oven on its lowest setting. 170*.

So it went it at 189 and it took almost 2 hours for my meat thermometer to register and drop in temp. So about 2pm I kicked the oven to 250 and it got to 200* and I yanked it from the oven, and wrapped it in towels galore and pulled it at 530.

The sauce turned out great too.

We didn't have any leftovers

No leftovers is a sign of success!!! Looked good, nice job!
Thanks Sauced!

It sure looked good, What did you think of the performance of your Oklahoma Joe?
Thanks AB, as far the performance.

I"ll start with the firebox, since i was most impressed with it.  It only leaked in two places to speak of.  Around the edge of the door on the side and the top of the lid where it meets the box.  just some quick foil and it was done.  Could control heat down to 200 pretty easy.

The cooking chamber, the lid warped on me a little when i was seasoning it, just cooking off the oils and paint that would inevitably cook off.  So i had to use a little tin foil there to keep the smoke in.

Either way, it was pretty straight forward, i havent put any plates in it yet, or extended the smoke stack to the other side etc.  Overall, for basically box stock, it worked. It worked pretty well, (for a single pork shoulder), and i made my best pork that go around haha.  In comparison to my last grill, which was the grocery store/lowes Char griller that you bought in two separate pieces, i think this one is far better out of the box.
