What are you using for heating element now that the Brinkmann is discontinued?

Hi All,

Slllloooowwwly continuing to work on my build. Job changes, plan changes ect.

In the meanwhile, Brinkmann discontinued the heating element I was going to use. I"m leery of using range top elements as I am not an electrician and don't want to create a problem with re-wiring.  My cooking area does NOT have 220 v .

I've found only one element similar to the Brinkman online.

BUT, the controller connects right into the element. The walls of my fridge (from tub to outside of shell) are 3.5" so the controller would be jammed up in the wall.

I was going w the Brinkman and a PID... it seemed the easiest.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

I'm in the same boat as you with slims pickings!

I've been searching the local craigslist for used Brinkman electric smokers. I got 2 fairly new brinkman smokers and elements for $30 each and I will most likely just scrap the smoker part.

Other people have been using finned strip heaters. You would need to wire with high temp wire inside the smoke chamber and then then wire it to a plug. They also need a good amount of airflow running past them and need to be adjusted to only run 60-80% through a PID or they will burn out.

I've heard if you go with the element you posted abovve, you can keep it on high and control with a PID and it should heat up fine. You'll just need to make it fit!

You could also look for a an older hot plate that still uses coils. Some of them are 1000-1500 watts I believe.

If you open the thermostat up, you will see where you might be able to direct wire it, effectively turning it into one like the Brinkman.  At least, it looks that way to me. I'm getting some ceramic wire nuts today. Then, plug into your PID to control the temp. It's a thought.
