Hello all,

Name is Scott. I have a few smokers however was looking for something a little more plug and play so...I just pulled the trigger ion a new Rec tec 680 yesterday . Delivery should be in about 2 weeks but I am hoping earlier. I guess the next best thing to smoking is talking about it. So here I am.

Any help or tips before I start this journey are greatly appreciated.

Welcome Scott, A good buddy of mine has the same smoker and loves it. Take plenty of pics of your process and post them as you go along. There is a wealth of knowledge here so don't be shy. Welcome to SMF.

TQ

Howdy Scott...congrats on the new Rec Tec!  I owned an RT for a few years myself...great cooker!  There are several RT owners here, and plenty more who own other brands of pellet cookers, so when you have specific questions, just ask!

thanks for the welcome guys. Now I need to figure out what brand pellets, seen a thread on that somewhere. Its between lumberjack and cooking pellets unless someone has a better idea.

I use lumberjack and like them. What part of the country do you live in?

Those are both excellent brands. If you can find them locally in your area without having to pay freight charges to have them shipped to you, so much the better. I used CookinPellets 100% hickory any time I could find a good deal. The rest of the time, I burned a brand I could buy locally at Academy Sports and Outdoors...B&B Pellets.

Hey Scott, I am a fairly new owner of a 680 model as well.  I am pretty happy with it.  Starting to do a lot more smoking lately with some great results.

Enjoy your new grill.
