Hello all, it's been a while since I've had time to do any cooking to speak of. Now that winter is coming to a close and it's warming up, I'm getting back in the swing of things!

Since I posted last, I've added a new smoker to my collection. I recently bought a 270 Sumo from Grill Billies in Raleigh, NC. Great place, great people to deal with if you live in the NC/SC/Southern VA area and need a go-to place for great BBQ tools and cookers.

I first got the 270 bug last November in my first KCBS competition. Several folks had them and spoke very highly of what they're capable of. I did my research, and ultimately decided that it was the right cooker for me.

It's a beautiful thing! I'm running 3 racks of baby backs this afternoon, along with some chicken thighs and halves for a neighbor.

Rubbed with Famous Dave's Rib Rub

My neighbor Jeff's homemade rub. Nice and sweet.

My neighbor Nathan's homemade rub. Good amount of heat and makes a great bark every time.

All loaded in. 250 degrees and using cherry wood chunks today.

The cooker performed flawlessly, and as described by the folks at 270 Smokers. Took about 30 minutes to come up to target temp of 250. Once there, I closed the intake damper down almost all the way like they say to do. It held perfectly at 245-250 for the 4.5 hour cook. I highly recommend this smoker to anyone who loves smoking meat but isn't a fan of constantly tending to your fire box. The folks at 270 claim that on one load of coal (about 1/2 bag), this cooker will run 8+ hours with no additional fuel needed. I was skeptical at first, but after this cook, I'm a believer!
