There is one factor that might affect bacon prices: higher demand. No supply problems though.

Slowly people accept the fact that the low fat jig is up, and go back to tasty cuts such as belly, butt.

This is not a new event but is slowly spreading. Sweden had a butter shortage, no supply problem, just people decided to eat more butter - for the same reason I mentioned above.

I can see the change in the supermarket meat cases too. Years ago most of the pork section would be hams, leg cutlets, plenty of loin and tenderloin Variations and a few sad butt cuts. No belly in sight (bacon is in a different section). Today: sliced belly (fresh), small belly pieces for roasting, large butts, butt steaks, etc.

So far all the pigs I got came with 2 bellies. I am not gonna lose sleep.

It all comes down to supply and demand if we go out and buy it all up then they have a reason to raise the price shortage!!! so they well claim. Just like with gas they were claiming a shortage and the ships could not get into port because all storage was full. Being in a farming area I know that the pig farmers can flood the market in 3 months so don't get to alarmed. My $.02
