Good afternoon guys,

I know its a day early but HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I wanted to get a question answered by the community if possible. I tried googling the answer as well as looking on the forum but I couldn't find anything in regards to this.

I even called Masterbuilt but I feel like the community here would be more knowledgeable because of this reason: I basically called Masterbuilt about some other question(s) and issue(s) and spoke with 2 different reps. One told me to clean the smoker every single time I use it. The other rep told me to leave the seasoning in the smoker and just clean out big clumps of gunk when needed. The community here informed me to let the seasoning stay and just clean out the massive build ups. So I will follow what the 2nd rep stated as well as what the community here suggests of course.

So here is my question:

When installing the digital controller on top of the unit, you're supposed to align the bottom screw of the controller to the hole on top of the smoker. Once aligned, you simply insert and slide the controller forward and then screw the controller in place with the 2 screws on the top back portion of the smoker. Simple enough. But my question is, my hole where the screw goes into has a white sticky plastic thingy. Like if you were to look into the hole where the screw is supposed to align, its not an empty hole. I don't know how to explain it. But the instructions doesn't say anything about removing it. The rep I spoke with at Masterbuilt told me to just leave it and simply do what I stated above for the installation of the controller. But, this is also the same rep that told me to clean it after every single use...

Anyways, hopefully my explanation is clear because this is the only question I have. I just want to make sure this bad boy is ready for Thanksgiving. I already seasoned it and everything worked fine. But just curious about the digital controller.

Thanks in advance guys!

It's a PITA.  I ended up using a small screwdriver to push down whatever that was (maybe insulation) so the screw head would fit and slide down the channel.  That took twice as much time as setting up the rest of the smoker on both of my Gen1 40".  Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey Dr. K! Thank you for your input and information.

I actually didn't push it through. I basically aligned it and then pushed it forward and put the 2 screws on for the back of the smoker to hold it in place. The 2 screw holes in the back did align perfectly. But I'm just curious if you're supposed to remove that thing or keep it there. I'm so confused by it haha... Also, I don't think the digital controller is sitting completely flush on top of the smoker, like it kinda "lifts up" in the front. Its very little but nonetheless, its a little lifted. I'm wondering if I should push it through...
