Hello all, my name is Tom, and I've just joined SMF.

I live in southern Ohio, USA., just above Cincinnati, and currently use a plain, old, Brinkmann charcoal / water smoker (ECB).  I will soon be making some modifications to the ECB, following the guidance found in "

The Smoking Basics eCourse: By Jeff Phillips ".

I would also like to upgrade my smoker to a better unit (don't want to spend too much, but want a good, overall smoker).

I could use some input, as stated above, I currently use an ECB when smoking, but would like to move to a better smoker (within a reasonable cost).  I'm not certain which direction I want to go with a new smoker (Electric, cheaper and easier to run, but flavor may not be as good as gas or wood; Gas (Propane), better heat, better flavor?? more costly than electric; Wood / Charcoal, best flavor but more involved, really need to understand heat distribution to avoid hot / cold spots.

Are there threads already created discussing types of smokers, pros vs. cons, and finally the best to choose?  I realize this question is most likely personal choice and how much I want to spend, but thought I'd ask.

Good morning and welcome to the forum, from a windy but nice day here in East Texas, and the best site on the web. Lots of great people with tons of information on just about  everything.
