Smoking a Turkey Breast

Thread Starter

Smoking my first turkey breast for Christmas dinner. 7.5 lbs.  Going to marinade/brine it a day in advance and have chosen a basic chicken rub.  Question about a good temp and cook time?  I figured 250 for the temp and should take about 4 to 5 hours.  Am I off base with that temp and time?  Any feedback or pointers will help.  Thanks in advance.

I go about 3 and 1/2 hours at 275. I have had excellent results with the hundred or so I have done. The main thing is cook to a temp rather than by time. Cook to 160 degrees is reached in all areas on the turkey breast. That said, if you do cook at 350,your timing is pretty close to what I would expect. Be sure to allow for rest time. I like to rest mine an hour or more. I sometimes cook them and put them in my cambro (a cooler will work) for four hours are more and still be in the safe zone.

I would say around 3 hours sounds about right. I usually figure about 30 minutes a pound @ 275 - 300
As mentioned cook to 160 - 165 then rest.
