And as herds continue to grow, and the strong dollar and competition from Europe and Canada blunts export demand, hog farmers are probably facing even lower prices in the months ahead, with December-delivery futures trading about 20 percent below current prices.

Seen this coming for a while. They've overshot demand quite a bit trying to recover from 2013.

That was a very interesting article that you linked to, mummel, thanks for posting it.
I understand how difficult the boom / bust cycles can be, particularly for the family run businesses, but I'm taking advantage of great prices on cryovac butts and loins. Ribs have not started to drop in price yet.
I buy 1 rack of ribs at the grocery every week, starting in March, for our annual family "all you can eat " rib pig out on the 4th of July. It's easier to afford a rack a week, instead of trying to pay for 15 or 20 racks at once. If ribs do drop in price in the near future, I'll load the freezer little earlier.
Now if beef would just get a bit more reasonable...,

Yeah the article referenced December prices will plummet. Its going to be a great Christmas.
