what do you think of this wood ??

ok sorry if in wrong place im a newbie lol

about 4 years ago i had to cut a big limb off a cherry tree to run a new power line and the section of branch I cut off was probably 15 feet long and averaged about 8 inches around. My uncle wanted the wood and i gave it to him but he has since passed away and i found the wood sitting still in the back of his truck (they go away in the winter months) and my aunt asked me if i wanted it back. this was about a year ago It was in the back of the truck in a dry garage for like three years and i brought it home and stacked it upon the ground and i prob should have stacked it off the ground and or inside

It has been sitting on the ground for about a year and some of the bark has a fungus on it but only where it touched the ground. I can easily split it take the bark off and cut it in chunks with the chop saw. here are a few pics of one of the smaller pieces i split and just wondering what you guys think and if you feel its usable wood. I'm sure the bigger stuff prob looks better in the middle and  if you think its not good enough to cook with how do you feel about burning it in my smoker for a first time as a burn all the oil off and a kind of seasoning process.

thanks in advance

Not a thing wrong with it. knock the bark off of it and go to smoking.

Happy smoken.

It looks a bit old but it could at least be kindling if it splits nicely.

cool thanks a bunch and this makes me happy because i just found (while hunting this year) and big cherry tree thats down(more like up-rooted) but still hung in the air off  the ground. the bottom has go to be to 25-30  inches around and about 20-25 feet up  it goes off in three different branches that are prob 15-18 inches each and they go for another 30-40 feet. and it all looks good as far as rot as it dont look like its been down long.

i think the bigger pieces will be better as this piece was right on the ground and one of the smallest ones

ignore the messy garage lol i have not orginized since putting the old car away taking out the snowmobiles and putting the plow on the 4 wheeler

There you go.

The local stores sell chunked wood, usually hickory, mesquite, and apple. Once and only once they had cherry, and I should have grabbed it when I had the chance.

i have 100 acres of heavily wooded land in the Adirondacks of upstate NY. i have about 20 apple trees that need grooming this year and more that will another year  and i think the wood from them will be perfect for this smoker. i have many maple trees also but no mesquite or hickory

I used to watch 22 acres in rural Ohio, lots of windfall maple, and that + a weber is how I got started on smoking.

That wood could be too old, but I bet you know by now?

If it is still good, cherry is one of my favorites to mix with other stronger woods.

Good luck and good smoking.
