Just dropping in to introduce myself.
New to true smoking, not new to grilling/cooking. I'm a chronic diy'er, so here's my plan....
I have grates from a couple of old ovens already (to scale in the picture). Not really sure how to fire it yet, but I have the 5x8 AMNPS (Fleet Farm carries them here) and a small Weber grill I don't use. I want to be able to do bacon/butts/etc. and also jerky/sausage/fish/cheese.
I'm thinking just a big sand pile with some fire bricks for the base, as I want it to be sort of portable.
Thoughts or suggestions?
